As a Nutritionist, people often ask me about particular foods when trying to lose weight, or what they should be feeding their children.
So over the coming days I’ll be sharing with you 6 different foods that may surprise you, common things families buy and consume which may be worth thinking about…
Products marketed as low or reduced fat are usually highly processed foods aimed at weight reduction or heart health. Look at the label – you will find the fat content is lower than the ‘regular’ version of the same product, BUT you are also likely to find higher levels of sugar and/or artificial sweeteners to make it taste good.
Of course the types of fats you choose to eat are an important consideration – if you are choosing foods high in trans-fats and sugar (as the combination makes them taste even better) then they won’t be beneficial for your health, or your waist lines. However, many studies have demonstrated that eating healthy fats doesn’t lead to weight gain. Unfortunately for all those carb junkies – studies have demonstrated that eating lots of starchy carbs and foods high in sugar can...therefore that’s the best place to start when looking at what you eat. Most nutritionists would encourage you to eat a diet rich in healthy fats for the benefits they bring, they do. Ask them whether they follow a low-fat diet – they don’t.
If you’re unsure what to eat or what to feed your family, struggling with your weight or fed up with feeling fatigued then get in touch. Together we can create a tailored nutrition plan that works for you.
